Rooney, Hart and Richards row down Hudson River to honour World Cup bet
Wayne Rooney, Joe Hart, and Micah Richards turned a promise into reality after Norway beat Brazil in the World Cup round of 16.

BBC Sport pundits Wayne Rooney, Joe Hart, and Micah Richards swapped microphones for oars and took to the Hudson River in New York. The row was the culmination of a bet made by Rooney during the World Cup: he pledged on live TV to row down the River Mersey if Norway defeated Brazil. Norway indeed won 2-1, sending the five-time champions home.
Norway fans' Viking rowing celebration became a global sensation, and striker Erling Haaland also chimed in, saying he expected Rooney to follow through. “Wayne, I expect you to go out on a rowing trip,” Haaland said. Rooney later stated he loved the experience and did it out of respect for the fans.
Norway were eliminated by England in the quarter-finals. Rooney, Hart and Richards will return to dry land for Sunday's World Cup final (20:00 BST) on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. England face France in the third-place match on Saturday at 22:00 BST, also live on BBC One and iPlayer.
