On Thursday, July 23, the Latvian parliament (Saeima) approved in the second reading amendments to the Electronic Mass Media Law. The amendments stipulate that television programs or parts thereof produced in the official languages of European Union member states must be voiced over, dubbed, or equipped with subtitles in Latvian. The decision aims to strengthen the use of the Latvian language in electronic media and ensure its accessibility for viewers. The exact timeline for the requirement to take effect has not been set yet, as the draft law still needs to pass a third reading.
