Saeima committee rejects role for Latgale planning region in managing eastern territory fund

A Saeima committee declined to back a proposal by three lawmakers to make the Latgale planning region the holder of funds for Latvia's eastern territory development fund. The region would have operated under the supervision of the Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development.

The Saeima's Public Administration and Local Government Committee on Tuesday rejected a proposal to entrust the Latgale planning region with the role of fund holder for the Latvian eastern territory development fund. The decision means the region is not, for now, involved in managing the fund.

The proposal was submitted by three members of parliament: Alīna Gendele and Anna Rancāne of the New Unity party (JV) and Edmunds Teirumnieks of the National Alliance (NA). Under their idea, the Latgale planning region would have carried out the fund-holder duties under the supervision of the Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development (VARAM).

The source text shows only that the committee did not support the amendment. It does not give the vote count, the committee's reasons, the size of the fund or the further progress of the bill.
