Quadricycle crash in Saldus region leaves one dead, one injured

A tragic traffic accident occurred on Monday, June 22, in Zaņa Parish, Saldus County, claiming the life of a 1968-born quadricycle driver. According to the State Police, the man lost control of the vehicle and overturned. He died at the scene, while the passenger sustained injuries and was taken to a medical facility.
Traffic accidents overview
Over the past 24 hours, a total of 117 road traffic accidents were registered in Latvia, injuring 11 people besides the fatality. Among the injured were two pedestrians, one cyclist, and two e-scooter riders. By region: Riga region recorded 51 accidents with five injured (two pedestrians, one e-scooter rider); Zemgale – 21 accidents with no injuries; Kurzeme – 18 accidents, four injured (one cyclist), and one death; Vidzeme – 18 accidents, one e-scooter rider injured; Latgale – 9 accidents, one injured.
Fires
Firefighters had a busy day on Monday. In Daugavpils, at 8:44 a.m., a fire broke out in a five-story apartment building on Ziemeļu Street. Smoke was coming from a second-floor window; rescuers saved one injured person from the burning apartment and handed them over to emergency medical services. The kitchen fire covered 2 m²; no smoke detector was installed. The fire was extinguished at 9:26 a.m.
Later, at 4:45 p.m., a fire occurred on Šķērsiela in Riga, where a two-story residential building's interfloor ceiling burned over 4 m². Three people evacuated before firefighters arrived; the fire was put out at 5:46 p.m. At 11:03 p.m., firefighters were called to Daugavpils Regional Hospital, where a mattress was burning on the eighth floor (2 m²). The fire was extinguished before their arrival, and two people were evacuated from the room.
In total, the State Fire and Rescue Service received 56 calls in the past 24 hours: 18 for firefighting, 26 for rescue operations, and 12 false alarms. Besides the mentioned fires, crews also extinguished blazes in an outbuilding, sauna, barn, car, garage, piles of branches and logs, dry grass, and garbage.
