First-Graders in Saldus Draw Their Own Takes on President Edgars Rinkēvičs's Portrait
First-grade pupils at Saldus Secondary School added their own drawings to a photo of Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs during an art lesson. The school shared the results on Instagram, where they drew attention.

Pupils of class 1.b at Saldus Secondary School in Latvia took on an unusual art lesson task: completing a photograph of Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs with their own imagination and drawings. The school posted the results on Instagram, and they have attracted attention on social media.
According to the photos the school published, the children experimented with colours and lines. They finished the other half of the president's picture themselves, each in their own style. The school described the task with humour: when first-graders need to learn about colours and lines, the model is the head of state himself.
Each pupil's own approach
Some drawings are dominated by bright red and blue tones, others use orange and grey, and in still others the children played with various lines and shapes. Although every pupil had the same model, each child's work differs from the rest.
The school stresses that it is this variety of ideas and colour combinations that gives the portrait collection its distinct character. In its post, the school said the president now has a whole portrait gallery, and every piece has a character of its own.
The pupils' drawings can also be viewed in the photo gallery published by the newspaper Latvijas Avīze.
