Salesforce, the American customer relationship management (CRM) software company, has agreed to acquire startup Rune Technologies for $375 million in cash and stock, according to Resilience Media. Rune develops artificial intelligence software that helps the U.S. military forecast supply needs and manage logistics from the field. The deal highlights Salesforce's push into defense technology.

Missionforce expands its reach

The acquisition ties into Missionforce, the Salesforce business unit that serves national security and defense agencies. The company said in a blog post that Missionforce's business has grown 80% year over year since it launched last year, helped in part by a new 10-year, $5.6 billion contract with the U.S. Army.

By integrating Rune's frontline logistics data, Missionforce will move beyond back-office administrative planning and into support for battlefield operations.

About Rune

Rune was founded in 2024 and has raised a total of $30 million from investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Point72 Ventures and IQT, a CIA-backed nonprofit venture firm formerly known as In-Q-Tel. According to PitchBook, the startup was last valued at $127 million when it raised a Series A round led by Human Capital last year.

A string of acquisitions

Salesforce has made several acquisitions this year. The company agreed to buy AI agent platform Fin, formerly Intercom, for $3.6 billion, purchased Qualified for $1.2 billion, and signed a deal to acquire Listen Labs. That startup had walked away from a $125 million Series C term sheet at a $1.5 billion valuation, as TechCrunch reported. Salesforce did not respond to a request for comment.
