San Francisco pitbull rescued after two days trapped in railway tunnel
A two-year-old pitbull named Roo, who ran away from home, spent two days in a dim San Francisco railway tunnel before being rescued by police and train staff. The dog was microchipped and has been reunited with his owner.
A two-year-old pitbull named Roo, who ran away from home, survived two days in a dim San Francisco railway tunnel before being rescued. Caltrain operators spotted the dog on his first day in the tunnel. According to a recent social media post from the San Francisco animal care and control shelter, they initially assumed the dog had been fatally struck by a train, as his body appeared motionless.
On the second day, after Roo was seen moving, police officers entered the tunnel on foot with a flashlight. They found Roo lying curled up next to a rail track and led him out of the darkness into daylight. The animal shelter wrote in the post that the dog was "terrified at first, then was thrilled to be rescued."
Roo was a recent adoptee who ran away after being "spooked." Fortunately, he was microchipped, and he has since been reunited with his owner.
The San Francisco area has seen other dog rescues recently. Menlo Park firefighters rescued a missing dog found swimming in San Francisco Bay, with seagulls following in pursuit.
