Golden Wedding in Saulkrasti: Modris and Ināra Say 'I Do' Again After 50 Years
A special ceremony took place at the Saulkrasti Civil Registry Office where Modris and Ināra Brieži renewed their marriage vows after 50 years together.
Last weekend, the Saulkrasti Civil Registry Office hosted a heartfelt event. The couple, who first married on March 26, 1976, in Pabaži, Riga district, reaffirmed their love in front of family and guests.
Over their 50 years of marriage, Modris and Ināra raised five children and now enjoy eight grandchildren. Their family has a special contribution to Latvian sports: daughter Aiva Aparjode is an Olympian, and grandchildren Kendija and Kristers Aparjodi represent Latvia in luge, also as Olympians. Ināra worked as a cook at the famous restaurant “Sēnīte” and at the preschool “Bitīte” in Loja, while Modris worked as a tractor driver and in carpentry. Both are now retired.
During the ceremony, photographs displayed the couple’s shared journey. Asked about the secret to a 50-year marriage, Ināra said life has had ups and downs, but the key is to stay together. She advises against hasty decisions about divorce, as even hard times can be overcome. She describes herself as quick and energetic, while Modris is calmer and more accepting – their different personalities create balance.
The Saulkrasti municipality congratulated the couple with a hydrangea plant, a festive bread, and a special golden wedding certificate. Gita Pētersone, head of the registry office, noted that each ceremony is carefully designed to reflect the couple’s unique story.
