Land Drones in Modern Warfare: From 30 Kilos to Several Tons
Military land drones, weighing from 30 kg to several tons, are becoming increasingly important in armed conflicts, but Latvia still prioritizes air defense.

Land drones serve as a means to protect soldiers' lives in modern warfare, but their applications vary greatly depending on size. As Kristaps Puķe, head of "Natrix", and Armands Sakne, development manager of "LV-TEH", stated on Latvian Radio's program "Digital Breakfast", these drones can weigh anywhere from 30 kilograms to several tons.
This wide weight range enables land drones to perform diverse tasks, from reconnaissance and logistics to direct combat operations. However, despite the growing role of drones on the battlefield, Latvia currently prioritizes air defense. This means that development in the land drone sector may proceed more slowly as resources are directed toward countering aerial threats.
Experts emphasize that drone technology is evolving rapidly, and Latvian military officials are keeping up with the latest trends. Nevertheless, the allocation of resources among different defense areas is a strategic decision that reflects the country's security priorities.
