For the first time, multi-genre solo artist Shipsea (Jānis Šipkēvics) took the stage at the Liepāja concert garden “Pūt, vējiņi!” on June 13, accompanied by the chamber orchestra “Sinfonietta Rīga” under conductor Normunds Šnē. The concert program “Simfoniskā gaismā” featured the artist’s most popular songs in symphonic arrangements, earning thunderous standing ovations from the audience.

Shipsea described his performance in Liepāja as a significant reunion, noting that returning to the city since his childhood and the days of “Liepājas dzintars” meant a great deal to him. The concert began with the artist conducting a ballet suite “Nestāsti man pasakas”, followed by songs such as “Pieturi man sevi klāt”, “Sēkla sniegā”, “Meitene no manas klases” and “Lielās cerības”.

The evening featured guest vocalists Una Daniela and Linda Rušeniece, who performed, among others, Peter Gabriel’s “Don’t Give up” and Shipsea’s “Cilvēks bez bruņām”. Tributes to the artist’s idols were also included, such as Imants Kalniņš’s “Apvij rokas” and the band “Jauns mēness” hit “Piekūns skrien debesīs”.

The biggest surprise was the participation of singer Renārs Kaupers, who joined Shipsea in duets of “Ilgi vēl” and “Mazā bilžu rāmītī”. The musical accompaniment was further enriched by guitarist Miķelis Putniņš, bassist Jānis Rubiks, drummer Rūdolfs Dankfelds and pianist Toms Mikāls.

At the climax, during the hit “Siltā gaismā”, the audience rose and greeted the artist with a sea of phone lights. After repeated bows and continuous applause, Shipsea together with Renārs Kaupers invited listeners to a cheerful jam with the song “Es šodien jūku prātā”.

The concert was organized by SIA “Lielais Dzintars” with support from the Liepāja municipality and the State Culture Capital Foundation.
