Sybiha in Iceland discusses accelerating Drone Deal signing
Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha visited Iceland, where he discussed Russia's intensifying hybrid attacks on Europe and agreed to speed up signing a Drone Deal with Reykjavik. The ministers also addressed energy cooperation and support for protecting critical infrastructure.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha met with his Icelandic counterpart, Þórdís Kolbrún Gylfadóttir, during a visit to Iceland to discuss the threat posed by Russia and bilateral cooperation. Sybiha shared details of the talks on social platform X, according to Yevropeiska Pravda.
Sybiha briefed his colleague on the situation in Ukraine, Russia's terror against civilians, the blockade in the Black Sea, and ongoing efforts toward achieving peace. The ministers also reviewed progress on agreements reached during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to Iceland, and agreed to accelerate preparations for signing a Drone Deal between the two countries.
Cooperation on infrastructure protection
The Ukrainian foreign minister said Ukraine is ready to share its experience in protecting critical infrastructure with Iceland. The two sides also discussed ways to deepen practical cooperation between Ukraine and the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF).
Sybiha noted that ahead of the high-level week of the UN General Assembly, the two countries aligned their positions on the most pressing international issues, paying particular attention to Russia's destabilizing actions in Europe and ways to counter them. The minister thanked his Icelandic counterpart for her country's readiness to provide energy support to Ukraine ahead of winter.
Earlier, on September 10, President Zelensky met with Gylfadóttir en route from Norway to Canada, where they discussed energy cooperation. Prior to that, Zelensky and the first lady had been in Norway, mainly to attend the funeral of King Harald V. During that trip, the Ukrainian president also held a series of meetings, including with heads of defense companies regarding the "Freya" anti-ballistic program.
