Woman Orders €50 Birthday Cake for Her Child but Receives a Different Design
A woman wrote on the social platform Threads that a €50 cake ordered for her child's birthday was made with a different decoration than agreed. Most commenters said a custom order should be made as arranged.
A woman named Zane shared her experience on the social media platform Threads about a cake she ordered in Latvia for her young daughter's birthday. Her post sparked a discussion about how closely a baker should follow the decoration a customer requested. The story was published on 12 October 2026.
What happened
Zane says she found a cake maker who agreed to bake a cake with pumpkins and a mouse decoration. The two sides had also agreed on swapping the animal figure, and everything else seemed clear.
A few minutes before she set off to collect the cake, she received a photo. The cake was beautiful, but it was not what she had ordered, as the pumpkins were gone. At first she assumed a language barrier was to blame, as the baker seemingly did not understand Latvian.
The baker later sent an explanation: she had thought a cake with flowers would look softer and more harmonious. Zane notes that she paid €50 for a custom order that turned out not to be custom.
Commenters' views
Several women joined the discussion. Kintija believes one should not simply accept this: she would refuse to pay or ask for a discount, since the customer should have been told about changes in good time. Arita admits the cake is very beautiful but says she would not accept it on principle.
Jolanta sees a lack of professionalism and says a custom order must be fulfilled as agreed. Beāte asked whether a mix-up might have occurred and the wrong order been handed out. Kristīne stresses that a language barrier is no excuse and that a specific decoration should be delivered.
