Sigulda, Allaži and Jēkabpils left without power for a second day
Sigulda, Allaži and Jēkabpils are facing widespread power outages that began the previous day and remain unresolved, with Jēkabpils also lacking water and telecommunications disrupted.

Sigulda and Allaži have been without electricity since the previous day, and power has not yet been restored. The situation is even more severe in Jēkabpils, where most of the city is without both electricity and water. Telecommunications are also disrupted, making it harder for residents in the affected areas to stay in contact.
Residents seek alternatives
People have been gathering at the few fuel stations still operating, which are running on generators. Water supplies at these stations are reportedly being bought up quickly as residents lose access to their normal water supply.
Everyday impact
In Sigulda, the power outage also disrupted cultural life — a concert by the band Tutas Lietas was cancelled, disappointing children who had been looking forward to it. Meanwhile, residents who have gas stoves are using the opportunity to cook food that might otherwise spoil, including items from their freezers, which some are turning into pelmeni.
Local news outlet TVNET contacted municipal leaders in both cities as well as local supermarkets to find out how the electricity and water supply problems are being addressed.
