Celebrities react to Democrats' win in US midterm elections
After the Democratic Party regained control of both chambers of Congress in the US midterm elections, actors, musicians and authors commented publicly on the result. Most welcomed it, while actor James Woods criticised Republicans.

Several figures from the American entertainment world have reacted on social media and on stage after the Democratic Party regained control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate in the US midterm elections. Midterms are held midway through a presidential term and decide the makeup of Congress.
Actors and authors
Actor John Leguizamo, who is predicted to be an Oscar contender for The Odyssey, said in an Instagram video that it was "redemption time" and time to "fix this mess". Singer and actor Bette Midler, a longtime opponent of Donald Trump, wrote that she was "OVERJOYED". Oscar winner Viola Davis congratulated Keisha Lance Bottoms, who became the first Black female governor in US history. Actor Danny Trejo praised Xavier Becerra, who became California's first Latino governor.
Actor John Cusack wrote that impeachment and removal were non-negotiable, and praised Abdul El-Sayed for beating "every smear machine dirty money can buy". Author Stephen King had said before the vote that he hoped the "enabling will stop"; afterwards he wrote simply: "Buyers' remorse." The Gilded Age actor Carrie Coon cited "human decency" as a driving force behind the result.
Musicians
Musician Yusuf Islam, formerly known as Cat Stevens, said rebuilding America's moral leadership would take time but that the signs were positive. The band the Chicks opened a concert by celebrating the outcome, telling the audience that Texas, the Senate and the House are "blue", the colour associated with the Democrats. Singer Normani posted on X that Texas had made her proud.
A different voice
Actor James Woods, who has previously been vocal in his support for Trump, congratulated the Democratic winners and described the Republicans who let it happen as lazy and worthless.
