Sony unveils new ULT Tower party speakers with Auracast wireless chaining

Sony has launched a trio of new ULT Tower party speakers, each one replacing a previous model in the lineup. The speakers come with extensive connectivity options, including XLR, RCA and USB-C ports, allowing them to work with nearly any modern DJ equipment, as well as pair with Sony's ULT MIC1 microphone for karaoke.

Party Chain and Auracast

The standout new feature is Party Chain, which lets the speakers connect to one another wirelessly using Bluetooth Auracast technology — previously reserved for Sony's headphones. This makes it easier to set up multi-room audio for gatherings. For now, the Auracast feature only works between the new models and isn't compatible with older Sony speakers.

All three speakers include four simple EQ buttons for on-the-fly sound adjustments: ULT1 and ULT2 boost bass to different degrees, FLAT aims for a true-to-source sound, and LIVE tries to recreate a live-performance feel.

Three models, different capabilities

The top-of-the-line ULT Tower Max costs $1,500 and replaces the previous Tower 10. It features a rear woofer, four tweeters and a mid-range speaker, along with 360-degree Party Sound technology for projecting audio around a space. It also has upgraded, wider-tread wheels for easier transport given its larger size.

The ULT Tower 7, priced at $650, replaces the XV800 and shares the same upgraded wheels and Party Sound technology. It carries an IPX4 water-resistance rating for outdoor use and offers up to 30 hours of battery life.

The smallest model, the ULT Tower 5, costs $450 and replaces the XV500. It also has an IPX4 rating, but its battery lasts around 20 hours.
