Sony Unveils Transparent PlayStation 5 Controllers and Console Covers
Sony has announced Prism, a collection of colorful, see-through accessories for the PlayStation 5. Preorders open on November 10, with shipping from February 4.

Japanese electronics company Sony announced on Wednesday a new line of accessories for its PlayStation 5 gaming console. The Prism collection includes translucent DualSense wireless controllers and console covers that reveal the hardware inside. It is presented as a nod to the see-through tech design of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The collection comes in three colors: Flare Orange, Emerald Green and Graphite Gray. On the controllers, translucent plastic wraps around almost the entire frame, exposing the internal components. The console cover is less transparent, showing only the fan and a few other parts.
Prices and timing
The Prism DualSense controller costs $85, while the console cover costs $75. Preorders begin on November 10, and shipping starts on February 4. The prices are roughly in line with existing accessories, though at the higher end: standard-color controllers start at $74 on the PlayStation website, and covers start at around $59. More colorful options cost more.
A return to retro design
The article's author notes that Apple's original iMac largely popularized translucent, colorful technology. The look was also common in devices such as the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo's Game Boy Color. It is now being revived, appearing in everything from gaming handhelds to a Theragun massage device, and Sony also offers a transparent pair of earbuds.
Physical discs
In July, Sony made a controversial decision to end production of physical game discs starting in 2028. Ownership advocates have criticized the move, pointing out that Sony's own terms of service state that buying a digital copy of a game does not mean the customer owns it.
