TV tonight: tense times with biscuits in the Bake Off tent

This evening's television lineup offers a variety of shows and series. On Channel 4 at 8pm, a new episode of 'Bake Off: The Professionals' airs. The four remaining teams compete for a place in the final six, tasked with producing two dozen perfectly executed savoury millefeuille and babka buns. Before that, they must create intricate biscuit showpieces inspired by the ancient wonders of the world, accompanied by elegant petit gâteaux.
On Sky One at 8pm, 'Best Medicine' continues. This belated US adaptation of Doc Martin follows big-city medic Martin Best as he grumbles around the quaint Maine town of Port Wenn. When he is guilted into checking on a local recluse who missed their monthly supply pickup, it ends up affecting the whole community.
On U&Alibi at 9pm, the Canadian cop procedural 'Allegiance' airs. This week, an Indian wedding descends into chaos when the groom is stabbed and gifts are stolen. The episode investigates what a group of college students have to do with it.
At the same time on U&W, true-crime series 'The Pike County Murders: A Family Massacre' delves into the rural community of Pike County, Ohio. It explores the 2016 murders of eight members of the Rhoden family, using first-person testimony and reconstructions to unpick a deadly family feud.
Late at night, at 11:30pm on BBC Four, the historical series 'The American Revolution' continues with its penultimate episode. Washington's army is in tatters at Valley Forge, but a new alliance begins to shift the dial.
At 2am on Sky Witness, 'Fire Country' returns for a fourth season. The Cal Fire team deals with the fallout of the huge Zabel Ridge blaze from last season, mourning losses while facing power struggles and internal politics.
Film choice: At 11:15pm on Sky Cinema Greats, the 1996 comedy 'The First Wives Club' starring Diane Keaton, Goldie Hawn, and Bette Midler. Three old college pals reunite after a friend's death caused by an evil ex-husband and seek righteous revenge, culminating in a song-and-dance number to Lesley Gore's 'You Don’t Own Me'.
