Jesús de Miguel Alameda, a forward for the Spanish football club Tenerife, died in hospital on Tuesday at the age of 30. He had been injured in a collision with an opposing goalkeeper during a match on Monday in La Liga 2, Spain's second-tier league, and the club itself announced his death.

What happened on the pitch

On Monday, Tenerife hosted Andorra at home. During stoppage time, the visitors' goalkeeper, Jesús Owono, ran into de Miguel in the centre of the pitch. The goalkeeper was shown a red card immediately.

De Miguel remained lying on the grass, and shortly afterwards his heart briefly stopped. The match was halted and the player was taken to hospital. The club later said the forward's condition had worsened neurologically.

Statement from the club

The club confirmed the death on Tuesday, stating that it occurred at 8 a.m. on 3 November 2026. In its statement, Tenerife said no words could offer comfort and that it stood with the player's family and loved ones.

Career

De Miguel made his professional debut in 2015 with the second team of Leganés. He has since played for eight other Spanish clubs, one of which is Tenerife, which he joined last year.
