Nearly 9,300 Households Lose Power in Eastern Latvia Due to Severe Thunderstorm
On Sunday, a severe thunderstorm caused power outages for about 9,300 customers in the Rēzekne, Preiļi, and Ludza municipalities. Damages were mainly due to fallen trees and branches on overhead power lines, as well as lightning strikes.
A powerful thunderstorm on Sunday left approximately 9,300 customers of AS "Sadales tīkls" without electricity in the eastern Latvian municipalities of Rēzekne, Preiļi, and Ludza.
According to the company, the outages were primarily caused by trees and branches collapsing onto overhead power lines, along with lightning strikes. Repair crews are working overtime to restore power as quickly as possible.
"Sadales tīkls" warns that the situation remains dynamic, as the storm continues to move and may cause further damage. Residents are advised to stay away from overhead lines and broken wires during the storm, and to unplug sensitive electrical devices if their building lacks lightning protection.
