Blast Confirms Moldova's Third Airspace Breach in Nine Days
Ukraine's Air Force says a Russian-made aircraft called "Banderol" crossed into Moldovan territory, but Moldovan investigators have yet to conclusively identify the wreckage found at the scene.
Moldova has recorded another suspected airspace violation, the third such incident in nine days. The event was accompanied by an explosion that drew the attention of local authorities and investigators.
Ukraine's Air Force stated that a Russian-made aircraft, referred to as "Banderol," had crossed the country's border. Weapons of this type have been used by Russia in strikes against Ukraine and can include both unmanned aerial vehicles and cruise missiles, which may end up over neighboring territory if diverted from their original course or shot down.
Following the blast, Moldovan investigators examined wreckage recovered at the site but have so far been unable to conclusively confirm that it belongs to the "Banderol"-type aircraft cited by Ukraine's Air Force. The origin of the debris remains under review, and no official conclusion has yet been announced.
This marks the third suspected airspace breach in Moldova within nine days, underscoring the growing risk faced by countries bordering Ukraine even though they are not parties to the war. The repeated incidents raise concerns about Moldova's security and the need for enhanced airspace monitoring in the region.
Neither Ukrainian nor Moldovan officials have provided further details on the exact circumstances of the incident or its possible consequences.
