Spurs Still Believe in Fox Despite Poor Finals Performance
San Antonio Spurs general manager Brian Wright has expressed full confidence in De'Aaron Fox, who will become the team's highest-paid player next season. Despite a disappointing NBA Finals showing, the club views him as a key part of their long-term future.

The San Antonio Spurs, who lost the NBA Finals 1-4 to the New York Knicks this season, continue to hold their guard De'Aaron Fox in high regard. Although Fox averaged just 12.8 points on 34.3% shooting in the Finals, the franchise sees him as a vital piece of the team's future.
In a column for The Athletic, NBA insider Jared Weiss noted that Fox is considered extremely important to the Spurs' future. This sentiment was publicly echoed by Spurs general manager Brian Wright in late June, who stated that the organization has complete trust in Fox as a player and his ability to help the team.
Next season, Fox will begin the four-year, $222 million contract extension he signed in the summer of 2025. With a salary of $49.8 million, he will be by far the highest-paid player on the Spurs — second-highest Devin Vassell will earn $27 million. Meanwhile, Victor Wembanyama's big contract will not kick in until the 2027-28 season.
