A final guilty verdict from the Riga Regional Court in Latvia entered into force last year in a criminal case involving three contract killings and an attempted murder. Three men were charged with killing three entrepreneurs on contract, as well as with the 2007 attempt to kill Vladimir Vaškevičs. Vaškevičs formerly headed the Customs Criminal Investigation Department of the State Revenue Service.

The news agency LETA found out that the verdict had taken effect. This means the ruling can no longer be appealed and the court proceedings in the case have concluded.

The report does not say what sentences the convicted men received, who they are, or what the circumstances of the attack on Vaškevičs were.
