Steam Controller Orders Delayed: New Reservations May Not Ship Until 2027
Valve has announced that due to overwhelming demand and component shortages, new Steam Controller reservations will not be fulfilled until 2027 at the earliest.

Valve has provided an update on Steam Controller orders, revealing significant delays. The company now shows three estimated timeframes for when reservation holders can expect to place their order: by September 2026, by December 2026, or sometime in 2027. Any reservations made today indicate a 2027 shipping date, Valve says.
The Steam Controller went on sale in early May, but initial demand exceeded expectations, leading to checkout problems and rapid sellouts. Valve subsequently implemented a reservation queue, giving interested buyers a waitlist spot. When a controller becomes available, they have 72 hours to complete the purchase.
Valve emphasized that it has no plans to discontinue the Steam Controller, but current demand outstrips production capacity. All three of Valve's major hardware products—the Steam Controller, Steam Machine, and Steam Frame VR headset—were delayed from an originally planned early 2026 launch due to the component crisis. Just yesterday, Valve launched the major SteamOS 3.8 update with Steam Machine support and has been importing hardware into the US.
