Stevie Wonder Asks Court to Evict Ex-Fiancée From His Los Angeles Home
US singer Stevie Wonder has filed a suit in Los Angeles Superior Court seeking to evict his former fiancée Carmen Efferson from a house where she has lived rent-free for 38 years. He also asks for $600 in damages over lapsed property insurance.

Stevie Wonder, the 76-year-old American singer, has filed a civil lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court against his former fiancée, Carmen Efferson. He is seeking her eviction from his house, where she has lived without paying rent for 38 years, according to Rolling Stone.
Verbal agreement and property inspection
Efferson has lived on the musician's property in the Hollywood Hills since 1988, the year they met. After they split, she stayed in the three-bedroom house under a verbal agreement only, without paying rent.
This summer, Wonder's representatives tried to enter the house because the singer wanted to inspect the property and renew its insurance. Efferson refused to let them in. She later said she felt harassed.
Eviction notice and court filing
The musician's representatives could not reach an agreement with her and told her the verbal arrangement had been terminated because its terms were not followed. Efferson was served with an eviction notice requiring her to leave by 27 August 2026, but she did not move out.
Wonder then turned to the court. In the civil complaint he asks for her eviction and for $600 in damages connected with the failure to renew the property's insurance.
