Due to intense rainfall overnight into Sunday, a water leak occurred in Building 32 of Paula Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital, damaging hospital infrastructure. The most affected area was the 14th ward of the Pulmonary Diseases and Thoracic Surgery Center on the sixth floor. Smaller leaks were also detected in several lower-level wards.
The hospital stated that the source of the leak has been addressed and cleanup efforts are ongoing. Technical specialists assessed the condition of the premises and electrical safety, concluding that patient and staff safety is not compromised. However, as a precaution, 32 patients from the affected ward were moved to other hospital units.
As a result, planned admissions in certain specialties may be temporarily limited. The hospital will individually notify patients about any possible rescheduling of planned hospitalizations. To ensure continuous emergency care, the hospital is coordinating with the Emergency Medical Service, and the flow of emergency patients in certain profiles has been temporarily redirected until further decisions are made.
The hospital emphasized that no patients or staff were injured in the incident. Technical services continue to address the aftermath, and medical treatment at the hospital continues. The situation is currently under control.
