One of the most advanced medical robots has been installed at the Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital in Latvia. It is the Stereotaxis Genesis robotic magnetic navigation system, which is used in operations to treat heart rhythm disorders, known as arrhythmia.

What the system is for

Arrhythmia is a disturbance of the heart's rhythm. The new equipment makes it possible to carry out minimally invasive procedures, meaning interventions that are less taxing on the body than conventional surgery.

A rare device

There are only about 20 such robots in the world. One of them is now in Latvia.

The information comes from a Latvian Television report shown on LSM's Russian-language programme "Let's Discuss in the Evening". The summary of the report does not mention other details, such as the first operations performed or the number of patients.
