Major Tallinn Prisma store reopens as Coop Peremarket
The Sikupilli Prisma store in Tallinn has joined Coop's network, becoming the first Prisma hypermarket to operate under the Coop name. The merger of the two Estonian retail chains will continue at several more stores through November.
A significant milestone was reached on Tuesday in the merger of Estonia's Coop and Prisma retail chains, as the Sikupilli Prisma store in Tallinn was converted into Coop Peremarket. It is the first Prisma hypermarket to join Coop's store network.
Kadri Aguraiuja, chair of the management board of Coop Harju, said the opening of the Sikupilli store marks the start of a new chapter for Coop. She noted that although Coop is Estonia's largest retail chain, it has never previously operated stores as large as today's Prisma hypermarkets.
Four Prisma stores had already joined Coop's network earlier, all similar in size to existing Coop outlets. Sikupilli is the first of five hypermarkets set to continue operating under the Coop name. With this conversion, more than half of the Prisma stores in Tallinn and Harju County have now joined Coop.
Open around the clock, the Sikupilli store has a sales area of 6,666 square meters, making it one of Tallinn's largest grocery stores. It is Coop Harju's 33rd store overall and its third in Tallinn.
Kristiine Prisma will be the next store to join Coop's network, reopening at noon on October 6. It will be followed by the three remaining Harju County stores: Rocca al Mare Coop on October 13, Tähesaju Coop on October 20 and Mustika Coop on October 27. Stores in Rapla, Tartu and Narva are set to join the network in November.
Once all the Prisma stores have joined, Coop Harju's annual revenue is expected to exceed €300 million, placing it among Estonia's largest retail companies.
