Traffic Organization Updates in Tallinn

Before St. John's Day, the city of Tallinn is implementing changes to traffic organization in several locations. Vice Mayor Joel Jesse stated that the goal is to make traffic clearer and calmer while increasing safety for all road users. Changes are being made in areas where most accidents have occurred and where, based on resident feedback, the current solution can be improved—whether it concerns lane directions, turns, or pedestrian pathways.

To reduce noise and traffic disruption, special equipment from Finland is being used in some places.

Specific Locations

  • On Gonsiori Street, the reversible lane markings will be removed.
  • At the intersection of Gonsiori and Pronksi streets, traffic organization will be adjusted: on the inbound direction, a separate traffic light will regulate the left turn onto Pronksi Street.
  • At the intersection of Estonia Boulevard and Kentmanni Street, the organization will become clearer to make crossing the public transport lane on the right turn to Kentmanni Street safer.
  • At the intersection of Pärnu Highway and Tõnismäe Street, the pedestrian crossing will be moved closer to Pärnu Highway to make the pedestrian path more convenient and improve their visibility for drivers making maneuvers.
  • At the intersection of Tondi and Tammasaare tee streets, lane trajectories will be adjusted to make traffic safer and reduce the risk of accidents.

Additionally, other smaller-scale changes will be introduced in various districts of the city. City authorities urge all road users to be attentive and follow traffic signs and other traffic management devices.

Work started this week. In many cases, the first step is removing existing road markings.
