Talsu Municipality is implementing a project of national significance titled “Implementation of Practical Coastal Management Activities” in 2026. Its aim is to improve environmental quality and provide both local residents and tourists with a tidy, safe and accessible recreation area by the sea.

The municipality is responsible for several coastal areas along the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Riga — in Kolka, Mērsrags, Upesgrīva and Roja. The project includes beach maintenance work, such as regular cleaning and upkeep of coastal territories, ensuring that visitors have access to a clean and safe environment.

To develop beach infrastructure and improve visitor convenience, two changing cabins will be installed at Mērsrags beach. They are expected to complement the existing facilities and make the coastal area easier to use.

Regular coastal management and gradual infrastructure improvements are intended to help create an attractive and tidy seaside environment, while preserving natural values and enhancing access to the coast.
