Tate brothers arrested in US as Britain unveils new rape and trafficking charges

British prosecutors announced dozens of new charges against Andrew and Tristan Tate on Sunday, including rape and human trafficking, and formally requested their extradition a day after U.S. Marshals arrested the brothers in Miami.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said on Sunday it will prosecute Andrew Tate, 39, on new counts of rape along with charges of trafficking for sexual exploitation, assault, and offenses relating to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography. Tristan Tate, 38, faces new counts of rape, sexual assault, and trafficking for sexual exploitation.

The 38 new charges add to the 21 the brothers already face in Britain, bringing the total number of alleged victims to seven. The charges relate to alleged offenses between July 2010 and August 2017, the CPS stated.

The U.S. Justice Department said the arrests were carried out under standard extradition procedures. "Today, U.S. Marshals in the Southern District of Florida arrested Andrew and Tristan Tate pursuant to extradition proceedings," a department spokesperson said Saturday. The arrest warrant remains sealed, and the Tates are expected to make an initial court appearance in Florida early next week, according to a law enforcement official.

Joseph McBride, lawyer for the brothers, dismissed the charges as "filth and slander" designed to counter a defamation action the Tates have filed in the U.S. "America does not do Britain's political dirty work," he told the Associated Press.

The Tates, former kickboxers with dual U.S. and British citizenship, built their fame promoting a lavish lifestyle and views on masculinity and wealth. Andrew Tate has previously described himself as a misogynist. Both brothers deny all allegations.

They moved to Romania in 2016, were arrested there in 2022 in a separate sexual exploitation investigation, and traveled to the U.S. after a Romanian travel ban was lifted last year.
