Tesla's Latest Driver-Assistance System Now Available in Latvia
Following a decision by Latvia's Road Traffic Safety Directorate, Tesla has activated its newest driver-assistance system in the country. It can steer, brake and cross intersections on its own, but the driver must still supervise.
Electric carmaker Tesla has made its latest driver-assistance system available in Latvia. It lets a car steer, brake and drive through intersections by itself. The company activated it after a decision by the Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD), the state body responsible for road safety and vehicle matters, according to the automotive portal iAuto.lv.
The system can move independently in city traffic as well, not only outside built-up areas. It does not replace the driver, however: a person must continue to monitor the journey and be ready to act.
What remains to be examined
The iAuto.lv report, which includes a video, looks at how the technology performs on the streets of Riga and where its limits lie. The initial summary does not give specific test results.
The source does not say which Tesla models the system is available for, how much it costs, or what conditions the CSDD decision includes.
