Trump: Putin and Zelenskyy Want to End War but Don’t Know How
U.S. President Donald Trump said after the G7 summit that both Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy wish to end the war but lack a clear path to do so.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated during a press briefing after the G7 summit on May 17 that he had “very good conversations” with the leaders of Russia and Ukraine. He expressed his belief that both sides want to find a resolution but “just don’t know how to do it.”
French President Emmanuel Macron countered by saying that all G7 leaders agree Russia has not shown serious readiness for peace. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney added that the U.S. position on Ukraine is becoming “more realistic.”
According to media reports, Trump indicated at the summit a willingness to support Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia in exchange for European allies’ help in clearing mines from the Strait of Hormuz. Publicly, Trump stated he might restore sanctions on Russian oil after the exception period ends, implemented due to high global energy prices amid the war with Iran.
Trump also promised to consider Ukraine’s request for licenses to acquire air defense systems.
