Tsahkna on Karabeshkin's expulsion: we will not tolerate activity undermining our security
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna backed the decision to expel Russian citizen Leonid Karabeshkin, who the Internal Security Service says had ties to Russian intelligence. He is banned from entering the Schengen Area.

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna welcomed the decision to expel Russian citizen Leonid Karabeshkin from the country. The Estonian Internal Security Service (KaPo), the state security agency, reported that the man maintained ties with Russian intelligence services and with people acting in their interests. The expelled man is banned from entering the Schengen Area.
The minister's statement
Writing on social media, Tsahkna said Estonia would not turn a blind eye to threats to its own security and that of Europe. According to him, the country will not allow people linked to Russian intelligence services and hostile influence networks to abuse Estonia's openness. One such person has now been expelled and barred from the Schengen Area.
"And that is absolutely right. We will not tolerate activity that undermines our security," the minister concluded his post.
KaPo's explanation
KaPo spokeswoman Marta Tuul told the public broadcaster ERR that Karabeshkin regularly travelled to Russia and maintained contacts with Russian intelligence services and with people acting in their interests.
