Ukraine eliminates Russian colonel who defected in 2014
Ukrainian forces killed the commander of Russia's 8th Artillery Regiment, Oleksandr Isaiev, in a drone strike in the Kherson region; Isaiev had defected to Russia's side in 2014. The killing was reported by the online platform "Book of Executioners".
Ukraine's Defense Forces eliminated Oleksandr Isaiev, commander of the Russian Armed Forces' 8th Artillery Regiment, in an FPV drone strike in the Kherson region on September 19. The online platform "Book of Executioners" ("Книга катів") reported the strike.
According to the project, the 8th Regiment operated in the coastal tactical direction as part of Russia's "Dnipro" troop grouping.
Defection in 2014
Isaiev was born in Mykolaiv and had served in Ukraine's Armed Forces since 1992. In 2014, while serving as chief of staff and first deputy commander of the 406th separate coastal artillery brigade of the Ukrainian Navy's Coastal Guard Troops Center, he committed an act of state treason and defected to the enemy's side. He was subsequently appointed chief of staff and deputy commander of the 8th Artillery Regiment of Russia's Black Sea Fleet 22nd Army Corps.
Return to service and career in the Russian army
The platform notes that Isaiev was discharged to the reserve in 2015. However, in October 2022 he returned to service in his previous position and took part in the armed aggression against Ukraine. In September 2024 he was appointed commander of the 8th Artillery Regiment and given the rank of colonel.
