During the night of Wednesday, July 8, 2026, Ukraine carried out large-scale drone attacks on targets in Russia and occupied territories. The strikes hit multiple sites, including oil refineries and tankers.
In the Saratov region, a drone strike sparked a fire at an oil refinery. Regional governor Roman Busargin reported one person killed and several wounded, as well as damage to civilian infrastructure. Another major target was Nizhnekamsk in Tatarstan, home to petrochemical plants. Photos and videos posted on social media show a fire in the industrial zone. Authorities confirmed the attack but provided no further details.
In the Taganrog Bay, Ukrainian drones damaged two tankers heading to Rostov-on-Don. According to Rostov region governor Yuri Slyusar, the tankers were empty, two people sustained minor injuries, and the crew of one vessel was evacuated. In the Voronezh region, a fire broke out at the Borisoglebsk military airfield, confirmed by local authorities.
The Russian Defense Ministry claimed that 415 drones were shot down overnight over Russia and Crimea. The exact number of drones that reached their targets is not disclosed, but experts estimate that 10 to 15 percent of the drones hit their intended targets.
