Ukraine gets a new prime minister – Serhii Koretskyi
The Ukrainian parliament has approved Serhii Koretskyi as prime minister. He previously led Naftogaz and Ukrnafta, and his main tasks include preparing for winter and stabilizing the economy.

Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada on Wednesday approved Serhii Koretskyi as the country's new prime minister. The decision was backed by 289 lawmakers.
Koretskyi previously served as CEO of Naftogaz, the largest oil and gas company, and Ukrnafta, the largest oil producer. His appointment is unusual by Ukrainian political standards – he did not rise through party structures but came from the business world, where he spent over 20 years building companies, streamlining processes and managing large teams.
Before the appointment, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy outlined key priorities: preparing the country for winter, protecting energy and fuel infrastructure, stabilizing the economic situation, and effectively managing international aid. Officials expect the coming winter to be the toughest of the entire war.
Speaking in parliament, Koretskyi outlined the government's priorities: "This means fully supplying the defence forces, building up the capacity of Ukraine's defence industry and supporting the population and social protection, specifically for residents of frontline communities." He also highlighted preparing for the next heating season, supporting businesses for economic stability, deepening cooperation with international partners, effectively using international aid, and implementing housing programmes for Ukrainians.
Government sources say Koretskyi's reputation as an effective crisis manager was the key reason the president considered him for the post of prime minister.
