At Least Two Killed as Ukrainian Drones Hit Refineries and Industrial Sites Across Russia
Overnight Ukrainian drone strikes killed at least two people across several Russian regions and damaged two oil refineries, while a 14-year-old boy died in a Russian attack on Kyiv.
Ukraine launched another large-scale overnight drone attack on multiple Russian regions early Friday, killing at least two people and damaging two oil refineries, regional officials reported.
In the Perm region, located in the Ural Mountains east of Moscow, drones struck an "industrial facility," killing one man. Governor Dmitry Makhonin said on Telegram that emergency crews were working at the scene, though he did not name the facility. He added that air quality monitoring showed no exceeded pollutant levels and no danger to nearby residents. Social media images showed a large plume of black smoke over the city of Perm, later confirmed by NASA satellite imagery. Independent media identified the site as a Lukoil-operated refinery.
In the western border region of Belgorod, another man was killed when a drone struck the car he was driving.
Damage across several regions
In the Ulyanovsk region along the Volga River, at least eight people were injured and several industrial and civilian sites were damaged. Schools and colleges in the region canceled classes on Friday as a result.
In the Rostov region, bordering eastern Ukraine, drones damaged the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery. Governor Yury Slyusar said no one was injured, but the facility halted operations. According to Reuters, the refinery mainly produces fuel for export and processes about 100,000 barrels of oil daily.
Russia's Defense Ministry said it intercepted 592 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory and annexed Crimea between Thursday night and Friday morning.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian authorities reported that a 14-year-old boy was killed in an overnight Russian strike on Kyiv, with at least nine others injured.
