Units of Ukraine's Defense Forces carried out a drone strike overnight on Sunday against the Kirishi oil refinery in Russia's Leningrad region, near St. Petersburg, according to Ukraine's Armed Forces General Staff.

The Kirishi refinery is regarded as one of the second-largest oil refineries in Russia and forms an important part of the country's oil-processing infrastructure.

Ukraine's General Staff has not yet provided further details on the consequences of the strike or any potential damage.

In recent months, Ukraine has regularly carried out drone strikes against Russian oil refineries and energy facilities, aiming to undermine Russia's ability to fund its war effort and supply fuel to its armed forces.
