Anton Kovalskyi, who is serving as Ukraine's acting prosecutor general, told journalists that nobody has discussed with him an appointment to the post of prosecutor general. He spoke at a meeting with reporters that the outlet Ukrainska Pravda also attended. The question matters because the leadership of the country's top prosecution service is currently only temporary, and there is public discussion about who might hold the post permanently.

Kovalskyi said: "Nobody has spoken to me about any appointment as prosecutor general, and those conversations did not happen, and they are not happening."

Temporary duties

He stressed that he is carrying out the prosecutor general's duties only temporarily. According to him, his position as head of the Khmelnytskyi regional prosecutor's office is still being kept for him. He also said he has not occupied the prosecutor general's office.

Response about a possible offer

Asked whether he would agree to lead the Prosecutor General's Office, Kovalskyi answered that he would decide that question if he received a relevant proposal. By his own account, no such proposal exists at present.

The source also notes that the outlet has published a separate piece about Kovalskyi that looks at questions of property held by relatives and his wife's business. The information given here covers only Kovalskyi's own statements at the meeting with journalists.
