Ukrainian marine units have conducted an operation that resulted in the expulsion of Russian forces from a number of islands in the Dnipro River in Kherson Oblast. These islands are located between the city of Kherson and the temporarily occupied village of Oleshky.

During the operation, Ukrainian troops managed to regain control of the islands, which are strategically important as they allow Ukrainian forces to expand the so-called "kill zone" – an area from which they can effectively fire on Russian positions. The exact number and names of the liberated islands have not been disclosed, but they are known to be near the front line.

The marines' action demonstrates Ukraine's ability to conduct offensive operations on river islands, a challenging task. Russian forces had previously used these islands as strongholds to shell Kherson and surrounding areas. Now that Ukrainian forces are entrenched on the islands, they can better control the Dnipro River routes and restrict Russian movement.

This event is part of a broader Ukrainian counteroffensive in the southern front, aimed at recapturing occupied territories. Although progress is slow, every small territorial gain improves Ukraine's positions and puts pressure on Russian forces.
