Casualties Reported After Ukrainian Strikes Hit Belgorod
A Ukrainian attack on the Russian border city of Belgorod on Sunday left casualties and sparked multiple fires, including at a power plant and an Ozon warehouse, regional officials said.
The Russian border city of Belgorod suffered casualties following a Ukrainian attack on Sunday, acting regional Governor Alexander Shuvaev reported. Writing on Telegram, Shuvaev said preliminary information pointed to casualties and that several fires had broken out after the strikes, with emergency crews sent to the affected sites. He did not specify how many people were hurt.
Local Telegram channels reported that the city was hit by at least one missile. Social media videos showed fires burning in several parts of Belgorod, with one blaze reportedly close to the city's television tower.
Power Plant and Warehouse Hit
According to local outlet Pepel, one strike hit the Belgorod thermal power plant, triggering a fire there. Separately, Russia's second-largest retailer, Ozon, said one of its local warehouses was also struck. The company said staff were evacuated from the site but that casualties still occurred, and it has since halted operations in Belgorod.
Ukraine started targeting Ozon facilities last week, following more than a month of strikes on warehouses belonging to its larger rival, Wildberries. Kyiv officials have alleged that Wildberries has been supplying the Russian military with drone components and other equipment.
Belgorod region, which sits along the border with Ukraine, has repeatedly come under Ukrainian drone and missile fire, with previous attacks also causing casualties and damaging civilian infrastructure.
