Ulmale residents host «Flauta. Oboja. Peters» concert to honor their village
For the second year running, residents of the Kurzeme coastal village of Ulmale are organizing their own concert to celebrate their community. This year's event, «Flauta. Oboja. Peters», takes place on August 20 at the local Baptist prayer house.

Residents of Ulmale, a small village on Latvia's Kurzeme coast, jokingly describe themselves as no ordinary people. Rather than waiting for someone else to organize something for their community, they have taken matters into their own hands for the second year in a row, putting together a concert dedicated to their village.
This year's event, titled "Flauta. Oboja. Peters" ("Flute. Oboe. Peters"), will take place on August 20 at the Ulmale Baptist prayer house. The building holds significant cultural-historical value but has stood empty for years since the local congregation stopped operating.
Historic building reopens for an evening
Thanks to the concert, the doors of the church will open once again to anyone interested in attending. The event offers a chance not only to enjoy music but also to see a once-important building in Ulmale that has largely been forgotten in recent times.
The initiative reflects the residents' desire to take charge of their village's cultural life and heritage themselves, rather than relying on outside organizers. The concert has become an annual tradition that brings the community together and draws attention to this small coastal village.
