Almost 8.4 million ticket requests have been received for the India v Pakistan match at next year's ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, the sport's top international tournament for men's national teams. South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia are co-hosting the 2027 event. The two rivals meet on 10 October at the Wanderers stadium in Johannesburg, which holds just 34,000 spectators.
Demand for final tickets
The same ground also stages the final on 21 November, for which almost eight million ticket applications have been made. The tournament opener on 7 October will repeat the 2023 final, in which Australia surprised India in Ahmedabad.
Recent dominance
India v Pakistan is among the most anticipated fixtures in the cricket calendar and the most lucrative financially. In recent years, however, it has been one-sided: India have won their last nine meetings. Pakistan's most recent victory over India came at the 2022 Asia Cup.
Tournament format
Pakistan are in a group with Australia, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and one qualifier. The other group contains England, South Africa, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and another qualifier. The top three teams from each group, plus the best fourth-placed side, advance to the Super 7 stage. From there, the top four teams qualify for the semi-finals.
