Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is one of the most common health problems today. It can be caused by several factors, including excess weight, high salt intake, smoking, and genetic predisposition. However, experts note that daily diet also plays an important role in managing this condition.

Why the right vegetables matter

Nutrition experts specifically recommend focusing on vegetables rich in potassium, magnesium, fiber, and antioxidants, as these compounds have a recognized effect on regulating blood pressure. This principle also underlies the DASH diet, an eating approach specifically designed to help reduce high blood pressure.

The DASH diet is built around generous consumption of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, and low-fat dairy products, while limiting salt and saturated fat intake.

Experts' recommendations

The website EatingWell has compiled a list of five vegetables that nutrition specialists particularly highlight as useful for blood pressure control. One of them stands out for being surprisingly ordinary and easily accessible to any consumer at a regular store.

Experts emphasize that regularly including such vegetables in one's diet can be a valuable addition to other measures for reducing hypertension, including physical activity and weight management. However, dietary changes cannot replace medical treatment in more severe cases, so patients diagnosed with hypertension are advised to consult a doctor.
