Germany in no rush to deploy troops in Strait of Hormuz – prerequisites not met
The head of Germany's Bundestag Defense Committee does not expect a quick decision on Bundeswehr participation in the international mission in the Strait of Hormuz, as key conditions, including the sustainability of the ceasefire, remain unresolved.

Thomas Röwekamp, chairman of the Bundestag Defense Committee, does not foresee a swift decision on Germany's potential deployment of armed forces in the Strait of Hormuz as part of a multinational maritime security mission, according to Die Welt, as reported by European Pravda.
The CDU politician stated that not all prerequisites for Germany's involvement in the Hormuz operation have been met. "What is crucial now is how sustainable the ceasefire will be and whether support for such an operation can be secured," Röwekamp explained.
He added that given the current state of negotiations between the US and Iran, "it won't happen prematurely." Meanwhile, he noted that Germany has already moved its naval vessels to the Middle East and, if conditions are met, could deploy them within two weeks.
The international naval operation, led by France and the UK, aims to fully restore shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, which is vital for oil and liquefied natural gas exports. Germany has declared its readiness to participate and has already sent two naval ships to Djibouti in East Africa. The main objective of the operation is to neutralize mines laid by Iran during the conflict.
Earlier, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius warned that there is currently no certainty that the Bundestag will reach an agreement on a mandate for the Bundeswehr to participate in the Hormuz mission before the summer recess. On June 17, the US and Iran virtually signed a memorandum on ending hostilities and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. This document serves as the basis for working out the details of a final agreement within 60 days to formalize the ceasefire. Previously, Paris stated that the international maritime security mission in the Strait of Hormuz is effectively ready for deployment once all conditions are in place.
