Five people have been killed in a shooting in the town of Stade, northern Germany, police have confirmed. Two individuals have been arrested, one of whom is believed to be the suspect, a police spokesperson told the BBC.

Authorities have stated that there is no longer any threat to the public. A large number of emergency services personnel are currently at the scene. Police have advised the public via social media to avoid the area.

Stade, located west of Hamburg, has a population of approximately 50,000.
