German industry loses about 15,000 jobs per month

In an interview with the dpa news agency published on Saturday, July 25, Tanja Gönner, CEO of the Federation of German Industries (BDI), stated that German industry is losing approximately 15,000 jobs every month. She assessed the current situation as critical for the industrial sector, but expressed confidence that 'creeping deindustrialization' in Germany can be stopped.
According to Gönner, thanks to artificial intelligence technology, industry is now on the verge of a new industrial revolution. 'First and foremost, we have every chance in the field of industrial production,' she explained. 'That's where data is created, processes are developed, and experience in application is gained. Large technology corporations do not have this, which is why they want to gain access to it.'
However, the decisive factor is the regulatory environment that will attract investment into this transformation process, Gönner believes. 'Germany's competitiveness has declined,' she stated. The expert also highlighted challenging international conditions. Competition has intensified due to US tariff policies and China's interference in free market competition through state subsidies in certain industries. 'And all this is happening at a time when we need to go to the fitness club to shed the kilograms gained over the past years,' she lamented, pointing out that it is the combination of these factors that has put Germany as a production location under such pressure.
The BDI represents the interests of around 100,000 large, medium, and small businesses, employing a total of more than 8 million people.
