German-Dutch Corps to Take Over NATO Forces in Estonia and Latvia on July 1
The 1 German/Netherlands Corps will assume tactical command of Estonian and Latvian land forces from Multinational Corps Northeast starting July 1, as part of NATO's new force model to enhance rapid response on the eastern flank.

A handover ceremony is scheduled for Monday, June 30, in the twin border towns of Valga (Estonia) and Valka (Latvia), marking the transfer of tactical command over Estonian and Latvian land forces from Multinational Corps Northeast (MNC NE) to the 1 German/Netherlands Corps (1GNC).
Defense ministers from Estonia, Germany, the Netherlands, and Latvia, along with senior NATO military commanders, will attend the ceremony. The new command arrangement officially takes effect on July 1 and is part of NATO's new force model, designed to ensure faster response capabilities and increased combat readiness for allied forces on the alliance's eastern flank.
Under the new structure, the outgoing Multinational Corps Northeast will refocus its efforts on Poland and Lithuania, including responsibility for the security of the Suwalki Corridor. A fully operational corps typically comprises between 40,000 and 60,000 soldiers, organized into up to three divisions.
