Is it still worth buying a OnePlus phone in 2026?
After OnePlus confirmed it is exiting North America and Europe, the question is whether its phones remain worth buying. Most of its lineup is out of stock directly, and future updates will require switching from OxygenOS to ColorOS.
OnePlus confirmed in July that it is ceasing operations in North America and Europe. Most of the company's catalog is now out of stock on its own website, though its phones and audio accessories remain available through third-party retailers such as Amazon.
The brand's recent smartphone generations had reclaimed the "flagship killer" reputation that made OnePlus popular in the first place, which makes the exit announcement a tough pill to swallow for prospective buyers weighing whether a purchase still makes sense.
Software changes ahead
One of OnePlus' biggest strengths has always been its software, from the community-driven CyanogenMod on the original OnePlus One to its own OxygenOS, praised for being clean and customizable. That is now changing: while existing devices will keep receiving support, users who want future Android versions will need to switch to ColorOS, the interface used on Oppo phones. Since OxygenOS and ColorOS have shared the same codebase since 2021, the practical differences are minor, though ColorOS carries a bit more bloatware.
Weighing the purchase
The OnePlus 15, priced at around $900, still delivers strong value: a bright OLED display, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, fast 120W charging and excellent battery life, with cameras being its main weak point. Both the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus 15R are set to receive four major Android OS updates and six years of security patches, and OnePlus says it will continue to honor warranty and support commitments through its website.
Ultimately, buyers willing to accept the shift to ColorOS and treat it as their last OnePlus device can still get solid value from the phones. But for most people, the company's uncertain future in these markets makes it harder to justify buying into an ecosystem without a clear long-term path.
