After 22 Years, 'Sewing Days in Silmači' Returns to Valmiera Theatre
On June 12, Valmiera Theatre will premiere Elmārs Seņkovs' production of 'Sewing Days in Silmači', which avoids stereotypes while retaining classic elements.

As the summer solstice approaches, stages across Latvia once again echo with the themes of Rūdolfs Blaumanis' legendary play 'Sewing Days in Silmači'. After a 22-year hiatus, the work returns to Valmiera Theatre. The new production is directed by Elmārs Seņkovs and is set to premiere on June 12.
The director has chosen to bypass the well-loved interpretational stereotypes, offering audiences a fresh perspective on the familiar plot. Nevertheless, the production retains two iconic elements – the exploding stove and the bee attack – which have been integral to the play for decades.
'Sewing Days in Silmači' is one of the most popular Latvian plays, performed annually in various productions across the country. Valmiera Theatre's version promises to be different yet respectful of tradition.
